At first glance, this New Moon chart is about connecting, networking, and socializing.
It’s about hooking up with information and facts. Mercury, Mars, the Sun and the Moon are all in Gemini for this New Moon. In our current culture, lots of that happens through technology. More and more the expectation is to be instantly available to connect through texting, email, and Facebook. These days clients book sessions through texting. I am amazed at how often people are on line when I am and we email back and forth instead of picking up the phone. Same with texting! And then both parties actually are holding the phone in their hands! 11 buttons to punch a long distance number (less if they are in your contacts) and there could be a real live human on the other end versus 100+ keys, then corrections, then emoticons, then rereading, spellchecking, or just giving up and sending, hoping the contact speaks “text.” I play that game.
There are studies out now that say that when one compares satisfaction with human interaction through on-line tools versus in person or even on the phone where we can hear the voice, emotions and inflection in conversation, on-line connections are less satisfying. Loneliness is not remediated by texting.
Gemini is associated with technology, networking, writing and other forms of communication, and short travels. It thrives in the information oriented internet. Gemini is an information gatherer. It identifies and labels facts. As the third sign in the zodiac, gives names to things we need or value(Taurus.)
I’ve noticed often, for example, that people like massage therapists or reiki practitioners have birth charts that have strong third houses and Mercury (ruler of Gemini) connections to outer planets. Not all, but enough to notice. Gemini correlates to the hands. Information can be gathered by the sense of touch.
My feeling about this New Moon is that the Gemini curiosity can be satisfied by receiving and sending information through the senses, particularly the hands, the body, and through the Heart and Mind. Mercury, Mars, the Sun and Moon. One could experiment what that feels like without a smart phone, unless there is an app for that.
This lunar cycle offers a variety of choices for setting an intention for the next 28-29 days. Good! ‘Cuz Gemini loves variety.
A practice or intention during this lunar cycle, could be to spend less time with the techie tools and have an in-person tea with a friend or new acquaintance. I’ve had some Skype coffees, and though I love that I can stay in touch with people who live far from me, my heart is much more open, even relaxed after connecting in person with friends. Especially with a hello or good-bye hug. You could experiment for yourself.
Another intention could be to check in daily with what the body is feeling. Put your hands on your Heart Center; is it restricted or open? In conversation, what is the feeling in the Heart Center? Does it change, depending on the person? Does it depend on the topic? What triggers changes in the body (Mars)? Is there a particularly sensitive part of the body that tingles, or sparks, when anger is present. Is it possible to notice that before reacting?
I remember when I was learning about my own anger, after years of being a “nice” girl and saying, “Oh, I never ever get angry. My meditation practice keeps me calm.” I started each morning mentally contacting each part of my body from foot to head to sense, to see if I noticed a difference. Later I would check in during the day. One day I felt an explosion in my head, when a car didn’t stop for me at a crosswalk. It was the first recognition of anger. At the time it was profound. Information about myself that came through mental (Gemini) observation of the body’s response system. Gemini correlates, also, to the peripheral nervous system.
While so much Gemini during this New Moon also may be felt as scattered with lots of details to care for, the mutable nature of Gemini provides the capacity to be flexible. It is a playful and youthful sign.
A serious New Moon in Gemini?
At second glance, there is a side of this New Moon that is more serious. Saturn moved back into Scorpio for the summer until September 17, returning our global consciousness back to matters of life and death, financial systems, psychology, transformation and evolution. On the 20th, a balsamic semi-square is exact between Saturn and Pluto, and is also present all summer with another exact peak on August 13 and close at Saturn’s direction change on August First. This is likely to be noticed globally with continued overhauling of consciousness, and more movement toward eliminating, releasing, systems that are less and less effective or useful.
Also, strong in the New Moon chart is the creative spirit represented by Jupiter in Leo trine Uranus in Aries, exact on the 22nd. Both planets are in fire signs and here, along with the inquisitive Gemini energy, solutions present themselves by grace and sometimes in delightfully surprising and sudden ways. This is the last of three trines since last September, so we have some experience behind us which is ever so helpful with the weight of the Saturn/Pluto dynamic. Using the fire and inspiration of Jupiter and Uranus, we could find ourselves feeling as though we have accomplished something big by the end of the summer.
For now, for this New Moon in Gemini, is a matter of discovery.Share, please and thank you.
