How I never managed to read this gem of a book, I’ll never know. I heard about it through an OPA webinar for members with Alexandra Karacostas, whose topic was the Uranus in Taurus ingress.
Your Sun Sign as a Spiritual Guide by Swami Kriyananda
As you probably know there are quite a few people who do not “get” the attraction to astrology. In fact, in many circles and families, it is a taboo topic, one receiving little support or only considered as a hobby by family members or friends.
Whether the problem is lack of openmindedness, a need to prove something solely through current scientific means or buying into over-simplified definitions of a complex system, thus deciding it is a less than serious study possibility, astrology is a mystery to much of the population.
For sure, it is about as easy a study to fully describe (or learn!) as technology or computer science.
Best to start with quality information and simplicity, and add more high caliber information as desire demands. Share the basics in easy to understand language without negativity and with highest potential of outcome of each archetype. This succint volume, Your Sun Sign as a Spiritual Guide does just that.
Part One has several short segments on history, “how the planets affect us”, modern and ancient astrology and a simple discussion of “precession” and why we are not yet in the Age of Aquarius and won’t be for quite a long while yet. Precession is the gradual shifting of the earth’s rotational axis which changes timing, and eventually zodiac signs, of the equinoxes.
Part Two, most of the book, describes each of the Zodiac Signs, then teaches what it means to be born when the Sun travels through the sign. Learn how to use your Sun sign to make positive choices, become self-aware and develop spiritually, finally not requiring astrology as a guidance tool at all. All of this, is written, with a sense of humor about human foibles.
As the back covers reads, this book “Speaks to Your Soul”. It does, and in a way most anyone can directly relate to without needing to understand the technical constructs of astrology.
You’ll understand yourself better and your friends and family. It’s a book to come back to again and again or read to a friend.
Swami Kriyananda (1926-2013) was a direct disciple of Paramhansa Yogananda and established Ananda, a spiritual intentional community.
