Jupiter and Saturn have a 20 year cycle, which is relevant on a social and global level. Jupiter represents beliefs and philosophy, intuitive wisdom, natural laws and principles and its vibration is expansive. It’s been extra flashy and creative in Leo this past year. Saturn is a more dense vibration. It represents the foundation and structure of society, and builds the laws and regulations which are based on the Jupiter’s cultural beliefs. Saturn is in Scorpio until mid-September, wrapping up some loose ends around mastery of transformative energies including sexuality and intimacy, finances and taxes, power and fear, and life and death. Phases and cycles.

Because the two are in a Last Quarter Square, we hope the relationship between Saturn and Jupiter has matured. The Last Quarter Square has the energy of the Midheaven or beginning of the 10th house. The world is looking in on what Saturn and Jupiter have accomplished. Dane Rudyar called that phase one of “crisis in consciousness or belief” which seems even more appropriate when considering these two planets. Have we matured and where do we go from here?
What does this mean for us personally? If Jupiter in Leo started off being a show-off, and learned to reach out to love the specialness of others; if Saturn in Scorpio turned jealousy into conscious expression of intimacy, then a foundation has been built which shows both an expansion and maturity in the acceptance of Love in whatever form it takes. The next conjunction occurs in 2020 in innovative Aquarius which launches a phase focused on shattering of conventional social views.
The current cycle started back in 2000 with Saturn and Jupiter in Taurus, a sign that is concerned about security and self-love or self-sufficiency.
At the First Quarter Square, Saturn was in Leo which can squash Self-Love and reduce risk taking. Jupiter in Scorpio expands power and may result in excessive intimacy in order to feel the love that Saturn in Leo might not. At this square, an emotional foundation (it’s like the 4th house) is being built, and the waters are being tested, but when it is too much, then retreat into Me-first and overuse of power behavior. In this square, Jupiter is leading the way, because it is ahead of Scorpio by sign.
At the opposition, in 2010, austerity measures in Europe including Greece were put into place. People were still struggling with the aftermath of 2008s financial disasters. Saturn was in Virgo, another earth sign, not an easy placement, as it can reflect as really hard work, to the point of feeling like a slave with no benefits. Jupiter in Pisces can be unrealistic and deceptive. Turning this into an awareness (the opposition) about Love: Saturn in Virgo. Another way to love is to take responsibility and make sure others are ok. Jupiter in Pisces. Increased compassion for those who are suffering.
At the current Last Quarter Square, Jupiter is behind Saturn by sign, it is catching up. Saturn leads the way and as a result may have a bit more clout. Nonetheless, this is a square we hope will result in mature intimacy and healthy self love that includes the acceptance of other forms of expression. This is not an energy of retreat. It is an energy of integrity.
