2nd Edition with Steven Forrest
This is a series where we present a set of questions to Evolutionary or Soul-oriented Astrologers, and other wise humans.
We hope the responses are both helpful for everyday living and give you a feel for how different astrologers and other practitioners approach both their craft and their lives.
It must have been divine timing that Steve had some TIME to respond during a recent teaching tour at the Omega Institute in New York. Thank you so much, Steve. Grateful!
How, as an Evolutionary Astrologer, would you approach a client who is having trouble coping with what is going on in the world? Alternatively, could you say something about ‘what is going on in the world’? Why does the climate seem more troubling now than previously?
First and foremost, I would support the client in feeling concerned and upset! Anyone who isn’t concerned and upset just isn’t paying attention. A compassionate heart engaged with the world is a positive thing, and compassion for ourselves dictates that we give ourselves a break even if we are not all tranquil little Buddhas.
I feel that is a truthful statement, which is reason enough to say it. But I also feel it helps in the counseling process by making sure our first assumption is not that “the client has a psychological problem.” With that supportive affirmation established, I would go further and move in a more psychological direction.
I personally have a whole lot of trouble with Donald Trump – and now go back and re-read my first two sentences.
I am also a Capricorn with a strong Saturn. There’s a traditional, self-reliant, truth-or-consequences side to me – a “conservative” side, in other words, even though I vote “progressive.” Do I have an unresolved inner conflict with that side of me? Am I projecting onto poor, innocent Mr. Trump? It is a question worth exploring.
To state it precisely, is there anything inside of me that is exaggerating my response to him? Might my soul be more comfortable were I to deal with that part of myself in a more accepting way? Maybe, maybe not – but let’s look at it, let’s be brave enough to consider it.
Bottom line, all these crazy politicians are not just “out there” where we actually do need to deal with their predations as conscious, responsible citizens. They are also figures in our own heads that have become enmeshed in our own unresolved astrological issues.
What inspires you about the current world climate?
Neptune in Pisces! Virtually always, it has coincided with a time of spiritual rebirth. That is happening now too, it’s just hard to see because of all the noise. Think of the new Pope, for example, or the current rise of Buddhism and transpersonal psychology in the West. My last publication, The Book of Neptune, goes into a lot of detail about all of this. It’s too big a subject for this format.
Is there a practice or something you personally do, that you want to share, for easing the pain of a troubled Soul?
Prayer and meditation, foremost. Walking in the desert. Gardening. Spending peaceful time with my partner, Michelle. These practices are calming and they help me keep perspective.
Is there a book you would recommend and why?
I’ve been enjoying Michael A. Singer’s The Untethered Soul, lately. It is utterly founded on Buddhist dharma, but it is expressed in plain language. It’s NY Times bestseller too. He’s succeeded in doing something I’ve always tried to do with astrology, which is to bring it to a wider audience without turning it into Sun sign giggles.
